Non-Muslims: Do you believe oppression of women is widespread in Islam?

Disparity in wealth, contrary to what is written, is the norm in most Islamic societies. The rich pay zakat with great pomp during the month stipulated and absolve themselves of all evil against the poor. This is the cause of abuse and oppression in women. Where wealth is better distributed, this abuse is noticeably reduced.
