For Judge Judy fans! Why on every single show is there a former boyfriend-girlfriend involved in a lawsuit?

in which one has given money to the other based on a lie? The liar always describes the money as a "gift", claims to have paid at least part of it back in "cash" and can produce no receipts, and regardless of the verdict always leaves the courtroom smirking. Where does Judge Judy dig up these people? Are people really so stupid or conscience-less that they think they can get away with these con games? Just curious.
