Can putting a microwave under a boiler make the circuit board mess up?

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but we had an above stove microwave totally blow out when we tried to run it while a kettle of water on the stove below it was boiling away. There was a lot of steam flowing up around the microwave and that is the only explanation we could come up with. We had to replace the entire unit.
