I've just received a letter in the post asking for a compliments slip from my company...?

I seem to get one of these letters every few months or so - this one has come saying that a 7 year old terminally ill child is trying to get himself into the Guiness Book of Records by collecting the greatest number of compliment slips. It's been forwarded by a supplier with several lists of who has forwarded it on to who. Am I being far too cynical thinking that this is some kind of elaborate hoax, or should I just shut my whiny trap and send a compliments slip...? (Odd hoax I know because who gains apart from Royal Mail?)
